Weekend in Beirut Part 1

I'm home from my weekend in Beirut and i hate to say it but Beirut aint all that. Its only an hour and a half drive from tyr to beirut but the highway still has parts missing from the war.

Here's our trusty rust bucket that the power steering died in and was near impossible to turn but got us there and back without any serious arm injuries. The thing about driving here is everyone drives at 150ks an hour and they're rude and impatient so your driving along at a safe 100ks an hour and people beep at you from every direction. This isn't helped by the fact that people beep if your too slow, if they want you to move out of the way, if they're coming around a corner fast and dont want to stop or give way and if they're a taxi driver and your walking along the street. You pretty much beep for everything so its quite unnerving if your not used to it.

Well we stayed at this really fancy hotel where, being with the UN, they gave us some free beers! woo hoo!!!!

Here is the totally awesome indoor swimming pool at the hotel. It was lovely and heated. This was the kind of hotel you go to and stay inside the whole time your there. They had a gym and sauna. Oh and you can only really appreciate this if your from darwin but the hotel lights in the the hallways were on sensors so you could run up and down the hall and try to beat the lights. Ok darwin doesn't have anything like that in their hotels.

This is a photo of the ocean strip at beirut and the orange juice man. If there's one thing this place has going for it its the juice. Fruit grows great here and everywhere along the ocean front are these little men with their carts full of oranges and you can get a big cup of fresh juice for about 50 aussie cents.
